UT students, faculty, and staff

For those with no previous experience:

We welcome everyone! If you are interested, contact us or just drop by one of our Thursday beginner practices. While the recruitment period lasts through the year, if you have already missed a significant portion of the semester, be sure to email us first.

We offer a one-month free trial period with no commitment at the beginning of each semester. After that, we ask that all beginners pay the $150 club fee. This fee covers the cost of the uniform (hakama and keiko-gi) and the shinai (bamboo practice sword), as well as club dues for the semester. Returning members will only have to pay the $50 club dues.

After completing the first semester, all members are entitled to borrow protective gear from the club. Although you are welcome to just use the club gear, we do strongly encourage you to purchase your own as there can be shortages.

For those with previous experience:

If you already have some kendo experience and are interested in joining, contact us or drop by. We’ll provide you with as much equipment as we can, once you pay the basic club dues ($50).

It should be pointed out that any club equipment you borrow is yours to use and take care of as long as you come to practice on a regular basis (at least once/week). We have an insufficient number of sets to cover all the regular and the “occasional” members.

Not a student, faculty, or staff?

Unfortunately, because we are a university sponsored club, we cannot accept members that are not current UT students, faculty, or staff. If you are still interested in learning Kendo, please contact Austin Kendo Doshikai or visit their website.
